Pinwheels for Peace Project: July 20th 2009 – Al Aqaba started the Summer Peace Camp for children within the past week! One of their main projects is to craft 1000 Pinwheels for Peace. These pinwheels will officially be presented on September 21st, 2009 on World Peace Day. “.. After the army base was removed from the village a few months, we started helping the people to return to their homes. The first thing we did was to start fixing the kindergarten… Through the work of the Rebuilding Alliance, the kindergarten opened in May 2004, with an enrollment of 80 children. ”

Jeff Halper and Salim Shawamreh explain why rebuilding homes can bring house demolitions to an end. Important insight as to why acknowledgment of one family’s loss can save hundreds of other homes.

“On the Ground: Witness, Resist, Rebuild” — a film by Sean Geary
It was filmed in August 2003, follows Israeli activist Jeff Halper to Jerusalem house demolitions, culminating in his arrest for civil disobedience in a multinational effort to save the Jabari family’s home. That same week, volunteers helped the Shawamreh family build the Beit Arabiya Peace Center on their land, where their home was demolished four times previously.
