Gardens, Goats, and More: a sustainable climate action

The collapse of the world economy will further devastate the poor. Please give families in need in Gaza & the West Bank the gardening supplies, goats, chickens and more that they will need to produce their own food and start a home-based business.

Background

With both climate change and the COVID-19 pandemic projected to damage the world food supply, Rebuilding Alliance is providing families with a sustainable source of food and income. Families are given gardening equipment, seeds, and animals depending on their need, capacity, and capability. They can then grow vegetables or make animal products to feed their families or sell in local markets. One of our NGO partners, Women Programs Center Rafah, has close contacts in the Ministry of Agriculture. Experts from the sector will be available for guidance so families can ensure their crops and animals can flourish for a long time. A safe way to access food from home has become even more important as the Gaza Strip’s COVID-19 numbers rise.

Rebuilding Alliance’s preliminary research included meeting with the Agricultural Development Association, a Palestinian NGO specializing in agriculture and farming. They generously took our NGO partners on a field trip to visit one of their successful beneficiaries. They visited a grandmother who is able to fully support her family from income generated by her garden and farm animals given to her by the Agricultural Development Association. This is impressive, given that funding for this program ran out in 2018. Although the Association is not a partner for “Gardens, Goats, and More,” Rebuilding Alliance is happy to learn from other organizations in order to help more families and ensure that our efforts are complimentary.
