Suwar, just 1.5 years old, suffers from severe malnutrition
By Kareem Nasrallah
Umm Jawad, a mother of four, is one of the few survivors in northern Gaza enduring war, siege, and unimaginable hardship. Her youngest daughter, Suwar, just 1.5 years old, suffers from severe malnutrition. She can’t walk or even stand. Umm Jawad still breastfeeds her because she can’t afford even a piece of bread. “I cry every night looking at my daughter,” Umm Jawad says. “?Where will I get her milk or diapers”
Her other children long for food they haven’t tasted in months. Her daughter Rahaf wrote on the wall: “I want mango, watermelon, and meat.”
“The happiest moments for them,” Umm Jawad said: “are when I cook something—not food from a community kitchen.”
