Psychosocial support for women and children

By Lama Abed

The residents of Masafer Yatta continue to face numerous challenges, including an increased military presence, the establishment of mobile checkpoints, and settler violence. During the week of May 24th, our social worker, Fatma, conducted psychosocial support activities in Al-Derat, Emfaqrah, and Susya as part of our ongoing efforts in the South Hebron Hills.

In Al-Derat, 25 women participated in an art-based self-expression session designed for psychological relief. They were offered various activities such as pottery painting, drawing, and knitting, creating a space for them to release stress caused by settler attacks, home demolitions, and poverty.

In Emfaqrah and Susya, Fatma made home visits to check on women, elderly residents, and children—offering emotional support, identifying urgent needs like medicine, and teaching ways to help families cope with fear and shock, especially children facing ongoing trauma from settler threats and displacement.
